Compress HLS to a Smaller MP4

Paste an .m3u8 URL or drop a local playlist. Pick a resolution (240p–1080p) and a quality preset, and we re-encode to MP4 client-side. Output preserves audio.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will the output be?

Highly source-dependent. As a rough guide: 1080p + medium ≈ 1.5 Mbps, 720p + medium ≈ 1 Mbps, 480p + low ≈ 0.5 Mbps. Compare against your source bitrate.

Will quality drop noticeably?

Yes — lower presets sacrifice quality for size. Use 'auto' to keep encoder defaults, or 'high' / 'medium' for a balanced result.

Why does m3u8 fail to load?

Most often CORS. Use the upload tab as a workaround.

Can I trim while compressing?

Use HLS Trim to clip a range first, then compress the result if needed.

Does this preserve subtitles?

WebVTT subtitle tracks aren't currently muxed into the output.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome 105+, Edge 105+, Safari 16.4+, Firefox 130+. WebCodecs is required.
